Chapter Twenty-Three

TJ didn’t have any specific problems with Shadia, but she simply wasn’t for this so-called ass relationship she knew her brother was doing out of pity. Again, he had a kind heart when he wanted to and probably felt bad. In her opinion, he’d more than compensated for his indiscretions. Shadia owned her home because of him, had three cars, hell, she practically worked at the shop for fun.

Shadia wasn’t as innocent as she tried to make herself out to be. Yes, Daly fucked her over plenty of times but she was no victim. Holding babies over his head when she could’ve left his ass before stress killed them was cruel. It wasn’t like he was in her face trying to hurt her. While pregnant with their second child, he stayed away just so she could have a healthy pregnancy but somehow she still lost the baby. She, Erie and Kia had other theories but they kept it to themselves because it was a sore subject for their brother.

“Ahhh!” Emery screamed at Shadia when she tried to pick him up. He still hadn’t warmed up to her and TJ found it hilarious. No amount of food in the world made him soften to her. Her little brother would even go to her before Shadia.

“He want Pav,” Daly said, picking him up. “What’s wrong man?”

“Ji…” Emery pointed to the phone.

“You want Pav or Muji?”

“Ji…”

Daly picked his phone up giving it to Emery. He kept saying Ji louder and louder while waving it around.

“Ji Emery?” TJ showed him a picture of Pavati, and he smiled dropping Daly’s phone, snatching hers away.

“JI!” he screamed then slobbered all over the screen and Shadia rolled her eyes.

“Where she been at?” Daly asked.

“Ion know,” TJ shrugged, and he looked at her dully. “What?”

“Ard.”

Pavati hadn’t been around lately. Daly asked Lake and for the first time ever, his friend held out on him, simply saying she dealing with some shit. He accepted that because anytime Lake was indirect it was for a reason, but he couldn’t say he wasn’t worried about Pavati. The last time they saw one another she kissed him, and it’d been on his mind every day since. It felt like the first kiss he ever had. It was so weird the way she made him feel.

Pavati was more than a breath of fresh air, she was that approaching fall breeze with beautiful orange colored leaves whisking in the wind. He never understood what Lake meant when he described his first kiss with Avery but now, he knew. He would always laugh but this time it was no joking matter. Pavati was the real deal. She took him by surprise, but he recovered trying to make that brief encounter a lasting one.

“Are we still going?” Shadia asked Daly. That was the whole point of TJ coming over there, to get Emery so they could go out.

“Yea…” Daly looked around for something then sat Emery in his walker and he started going off. “Come on man…”

“JI!”

“It’s okay, I’ll take him to Pav’s house.
